OMAHA – A national organization that was founded at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) more than 60 years ago is celebrating its return to campus with a fall lecture series.
The UNO chapter of Silver Wings is hosting three speakers to debut the new Lecture in Leadership series.
Congressional candidate and retired United States Air Force Brigadier General Don Bacon spoke on Thursday, Sept. 29. Congressman Brad Ashford spoke on Thursday, Oct. 27, and UNO Director of Athletics Trev Alberts will speak on Thursday, Nov. 17.
Alberts' lecture will take place in Mammel Hall (6708 Pine St), from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. The event is free and open to the public.
Silver Wings was founded under the name “Angel Flight” at then-Omaha University in 1952. It became a national organization five years later. Records show the group active on campus up until 1982. A new campus chapter was established in 2006, but became inactive several years later.
Silver Wings is a co-ed, civilian organization that seeks to encourage the personal development, professional development and civic awareness of members through community service and education related to national defense.
Silver Wings works in tandem with the Arnold Air Society, a sister organization comprised of cadets in Air Force officer candidate training programs, including the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) and Air Force Academy.
