The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) flags will be lowered August 19, 2016, for Larry Winkler, a retiree who passed away August 16, 2016. Larry was 81 years old at the time of his death.
Before joining the university, Larry was a pilot in the United States Air Force, where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He started working at UNO in 1981 and retired in 2003 as the Assistant Dean in the College of Continuous Studies. Now, more than a decade after his retirement, Larry’s legacy is still remembered and felt by the UNO community.
“We here in the Division of Continuing Studies are so saddened by Dr. Winkler’s passing. His legacy at UNO is significant, and we are grateful we had the opportunity to work with him and enjoy his warm personality, animated stories, and dedication to helping students,” said Regina Toman, Assistant Dean of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service.
Larry also had a passion for music, which he shared with the UNO community. In December, he could be seen spreading holiday cheer by singing with a choir group in the Eppley Administration Building.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Larry’s loved ones during this difficult time.
