To support the transfer of general education credits to UNO, the following policy changes are now in effect and will be reflected in the Fall 2024 catalog:
Students admitted to UNO with a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution will have fulfilled UNO’s general education requirements. Such students must still complete any general education requirements specified within their specific program of study, and any required prerequisites or other requirements stated in UNO’s Undergraduate Catalog.
Students admitted to UNO with an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from a regionally accredited institution will have fulfilled UNO’s lower-division general education requirements. Such students must still complete any upper division general education requirements, general education requirements specified within their specific program of study, and any required prerequisites or other requirements stated in UNO’s Undergraduate Catalog.
UNO has existing articulation agreements with Metro Community College, Central Community College, and Southeast Community College. These agreements state that students completing an Associate of Arts degree and transferring to UNO will have fulfilled UNO general education requirements. The recent policy expansion broadens this to also include Associate of Science degrees from all accredited institutions, aligning with UNO’s commitment to inclusivity and educational collaboration. This updated policy represents UNO’s trust in the educational rigor upheld by community colleges, both locally and nationally, recognizing their pivotal role in students’ educational journeys.
With this progressive policy, UNO aims to create a more equitable and accessible environment for transfer students, promoting a smoother transition and recognition of their hard-earned credits from diverse educational backgrounds.
