Job scams are a real threat to job seekers. They can appear online, in print advertisements, career websites, Craigslist – or even in your email inbox.
Look out for these red flags before responding to any ads or emails:
- The company name or key job details are missing
- The email address or location information does not match
- You are asked for a credit card or bank account numbers
- The job or pay sounds too good to be true
- They offer a job without meeting you
- The job involves transferring money or requires you to use your bank account for company business

If you have already become a victim of an online false job posting scam, file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov and possibly the police.
Contact your bank and/or credit card company to close your accounts or dispute charges as necessary.
