At the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the CliftonStrengths assessment is taken by a number of students each year who are involved in scholarship groups, student organizations, and more. This page provides some additional information about CliftonStrengths.
The CliftonStrengths Assessment from Gallup is a web-based personality assessment consisting of 177 items that will take around 30 minutes to complete.
- Each item consists of a pair of potential self-descriptors, such as “I read instructions carefully” versus “I like to jump right into things.”
- You are given 20 seconds to respond to each pair and asked to choose the descriptor that best describes you and to what extent on a continuum.
Academic Advising
Students will be able to engage in conversations with their Academic Advisor on developing and using their CliftonStrengths in their academic experience at UNO. Students can ask their advisor in their scheduled appointments about using CliftonStrengths in course selection and building skills, such as time management, study strategies, and navigating academic challenges.
Career Development
Students will be able to attend a workshop that will explore how to develop their talents into strengths and apply them to career goals. Through discussion and interactive activities, participants will prepare their own CliftonStrengths-based development plan. Students who participate in the workshop will gain a greater understanding of their talents and explore how to use them in current and future career roles.
Health and Wellness Coaching
Students looking to explore how their CliftonStrengths can improve their overall well-being can schedule a coaching appointment with a UNO Health and Wellness Coach by calling 402.554.3523 or unostudentaffairs@unomaha.edu.
Wellness Coaches also work with students on matters including:
- Stress reduction
- Study planning
- Time management
- Academic success strategies
- Goal setting
- Motivation
- Sleep strategies
Housing and Residence Life
Students living in on-campus housing will have the opportunity to learn more about their CliftonStrengths through workshop programming hosted specifically for the residential community. Students will have the opportunity to gain insight into how their CliftonStrengths and those of others can function collaboratively to add value to the communities of which they’re a part, including with their roommates and the student community on campus.
Student Involvement
CliftonStrengths will be used for all the student leaders whose groups are directly connected to the Student Involvement Office to further develop their leadership skills. Example groups that are currently using CliftonStrengths include:
Omaha GREEKS (chapter and council leaders)
Success Academy
Success Academy students will have the opportunity to explore CliftonStrengths through their enrollment in US 1010. Success Academy students are also able to schedule appointments with Success Academy staff to further explore how their strengths can support their academic and career goals.
Thompson Learning Community
The Thompson Learning Community will engage first- and second-year students in CliftonStrengths-based activities around self-awareness, academic, and career development through our US 1020 and US 2020 curricula. We will continue to offer Strengths-based academic and career development opportunities to third-year and above students through one-on-one appointments.
