Research Funding Sources
There are many ways for history students to earn additional funding for their research, both within and outside the university. Below is a list of some of these opportunities.
Charles W. & Mary Caldwell Martin Fund
If you are an undergraduate or graduate student in the UNO Department of History and you are interested in applying for a Martin Fund Grant, please contact your academic advisor.
The Charles W. & Mary Caldwell Martin Fund was established in 2000 for the enhancement of teaching and research, with special emphasis on the history of the North American West.
In the spring of 2000, Mrs. Julie Videon and Dr. Charles Martin, Jr., (daughter and son of Charles W. and Mary Caldwell Martin) suggested the possibility of making a large gift in honor of their parents to the UNO Department of History. The Martin Fund is in place to advance the teaching, research, and publication about the history of the North American West and is open to faculty and students in the Department of History.
It provides supplementary stipends for the creation of two professorships, one in Western American History and one from all other fields of history. It also provides income to be administered by a departmental committee for use in supporting original research projects by history faculty and students. The Department of History began to make research grants available to History faculty and students in Spring 2001.
The Martin Fund has provided financial support to dozens of faculty and student research projects and it continues to encourage the study and teaching of Western History at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
