Background
Dr. Miye Nadya Tom (Paiute/Pomo/Russian) is a postcolonial scholar who has researched, published, and lectured on race/ethnicity in education nationally and internationally. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Coimbra, Portugal.
She has devoted the last decade of her life to working with students and youth from various communities in the USA, Spain, and Portugal. In 2019, she oversaw other guest editorship of the UNESCO’s International Review of Education. The 2019 issue, “Indigenous knowledges as vital contributions to sustainability,” brought together the work of Indigenous scholars from North America, Latin America, the Pacific Islands, and Africa.
She currently lectures in Native American Studies at the University of Nebraska. She is also an aspiring creative nonfiction writer pursuing her MFA at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
