Three Intelligence Community Scholars Kevin Holohan, Bethany Walter, Harrison Johnson have won second place in the 2016 General Larry D. Welch Deterrence Writing Award.
The above photo is of the three UNO students with Major General Allen W. Batschelet, USSTRATCOM's recently retired Chief of Staff. They received word of their award in an email which began, "On behalf of Admiral Cecil D. Haney, Commander United States Strategic Command."
Their paper is titled "Russia Intentions and Capabilities in the Artic, and Implications for U.S. Foreign
Policy."
1st place went to Major Jahara Matisek, USAF, "Gray Deterrence." Major Matisek is currently an AFIT Ph.D. student, Political Science, at Northwestern University.
Awards were presented at the Deterrence Symposium in late July in La Vista, Nebraska.
Intelligence Community Scholars is a student organization based in the Political Science Department that assists students pursuing national security and intelligence positions in government, academia and the private sector.
The fifteen student members this year were primarily political science or international studies majors but also included students majoring in criminal justice and information assurance.
Among this year’s activities were preparing research for the Assurance and Deterrence Conference held at UNO this spring and a visit to the FBI offices in Omaha for a full briefing on careers and life at the Bureau.
