Proulx and Metcalf received NILA Awards
NILA, or the Nebraska International Languages Association, this year honored Dr. Patrice Proulx (right) as the Nebraska Outstanding French Teacher of the Year and a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Language Teaching (MALT) Program, Jennifer Metcalf (left) as recipient of the New World Language Educator Award at a conference held on October 8.
Professor Proulx received her PhD from Cornell University and has taught French at UNO since 1992. Her research and teaching interests include 20th and 21st century French and francophone literature, cultural studies, and francophone film. She is especially interested in exploring literary themes related to history, memory, and the transmission of stories. She teaches such seminars as “Exiles, Madwomen, and Witches in Contemporary French Literature” and “Francophone Film and Literature: Africa, the Caribbean, and Quebec.” In addition she served as an editor of The Feminist Encyclopedia of French Literature and co-edited Immigrant Narratives in Contemporary France and Textualizing the Immigrant Experience in Contemporary Quebec.
Jennifer Metcalf earned her bachelor's degree at UNO and is currently teaching French at Millard South.
