Robert A. Edwards - Inducted in 2009
Bob Edwards spent 26 years as a McDonald's owner/operator of 18 restaurants in the Omaha, NE area. He and his wife Charlene opened their first restaurant in Bellevue, NE in 1976. They employed over 1,000 people.
During the development and growth of his McDonald's franchises, Edwards also started Keno Casino at Ak-Sar-Ben which he sold shortly after opening.
Edwards' career has been very diverse. He started in a family dry-cleaning business which transitioned into the consumer packaged goods industry. The business was sold to Armour & Co, where he worked as a director of marketing.
Edwards has served on the board of directors in several organizations, including American Cancer Society, Boys Town and Boys Town National Institute, Mid-America Council of the Boy Scouts, Nebraska Special Olympics, and the Ronald McDonald House of Omaha. He has also served on committees and advisory boards for Creighton University, Midlands Community Hospital, and both the Bellevue and Papillion Chambers of Commerce.
Edwards is a graduate of the University of Miami and received his Executive MBA from UNO in 1985. He and Charlene retired in 2002 to Naples, Florida and make frequent trips back to Omaha to spend time with their family.
