Maria Moran - Inducted in 2015
Maria Moran is a retired Assistant U.S. States Attorney. She is a 1974 Bachelor of Science in Business Administration graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a 1983 cum laude law graduate from Creighton University. Following her law school graduation, Moran worked for a general practice law firm. In 1987, she joined the Douglas County Attorney’s Office where she prosecuted felony cases.
In 1995, Moran joined the United States Attorney’s Office and, until her retirement in January 2011, prosecuted federal narcotic, gun and gang-related offenses. The majority of these cases involved criminal conspiracies to distribute controlled substances and included multiple defendants. During her prosecutorial career, Moran tried cases before more than 100 juries.
Moran is a 1999 recipient of the Department of Justice Director’s Award given for superior performance as an Assistant United States Attorney. She is also a five-time recipient of Law Enforcement’s Community Award for successful prosecution of gang-related offenses. In 2006 she was inducted into the American College of Trial Attorneys. To date, only two women in Nebraska have been honored with such membership.
