H. H. "Red" Nelson - Inducted in 1998
H. H. "Red" Nelson was born in Herman, Nebraska and graduated from Omaha Technical High School. He started college at Omaha University, now UNO, but was forced to drop out because of difficult economic times. He eventually returned to campus to earn his bachelor's degree in 1934. He went on to earn a law degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1970. |
In 1945, Nelson, with the help of his wife, started the H. H. "Red" Nelson Insurance Agency. Over the nexi 52 years, through a series of mergers, they grew the company into The Redland Group, Inc. Nelson is chairman of the company, as well as vice chairman of Redland & Associates. In 1995, Redland and others formed SilverStone Consulting, Inc., which specializes in human resources
Nelson has served as past president of the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Foundation, United Fund, Mid-America Boy Scout Council, the Christian Home Orphanage and the local, state and national association of "Big I" Insurance Agents. He has been named an Outstanding Citizen of Iowa, U.S.A. Insurance Man of the Year, Omaha Businessmen's Association Man of the Year and free enterprise person of the year by the Rotary Cub of Omaha.
