Ron Burns - Inducted in 1998
Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ron Burns was raised in Omaha where he attended Rummel (Roncalli) High School. He received a BSBA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1974.
Ron joined Northern Natural Gas Company, which became Enron Corporation. During the next 21 years he held several positions of increasing responsibility including regulatory affairs, operations and marketing.
In 1984, he was named Vice President for Transportation and Exchange and became President of Enron Gas Marketing in 1985. In addition, he held positions of President of Enron Gas Transportation in 1986; President of Enron Interstate Pipelines in 1988 and in 1989 became President and CEO of the Gas Pipeline Group.
From 1993 until 1995, he was President and CEO of Enron Capital and Trade Resources, a position he held until his return to Omaha in August of 1995 to become President and CEO of the Union Pacific Railroad.
Since leaving Union Pacific Mr. Burns has been involved in numerous venture capital opportunities in the Midwest as President and CEO of his own consulting firm. In addition to his business-related activities, Ron Burns has become actively involved in the development of UNOmaha College of Business Administration students.
Through his generous financial support to CBA he has developed a Leadership Seminar for graduate students in the College. The series of guest speakers features local and national business leaders.
