R. Craig Hoenshell - Inducted in 1998
A 1966 graduate of the College of Business Administration, R. Craig Hoenshell began his business career with IBM where he held positions as account representative, sales staff instructor and training manager from 1966 through 1973. Following his tenure at IBM, Hoenshell served in numerous senior management positions with First Data Resources, Incorporated, where he worked from 1973 until 1983.
In addition, his resume includes a nine year career at American Express were he served as president of Centurion Bank, Travelers Cheques and American Express International. He most recently served as chairman and CEO of Avis Rent-A-Car, Incorporated, and remained with the firm until earlier this year.
Through his years of experience in the field of management Mr. Hoenshell believes that leadership is the critical skill necessary to become successful. Desiring to encourage students to gain the skills necessary and to become strong leaders, he established and supports the Hoenshell Leadership and Scholars Program in the College of Business Administration at UNOmaha.
This program will provide two scholarship opportunities annually for junior and senior business students who demonstrate leadership potential. In addition, the Hoenshell Leadership Award annually recognizes a CBA student who has demonstrated leadership abilities in the classroom, in student organizations and in the community.
