Robert C. Stedman - Inducted in 2004
Robert Stedman graduated from Omaha University with a business degree in 1951. An Army veteran and OU basketball and football player, he spent three weeks in the San Francisco 49ers training camp after graduation before joining Equitable Life Assurance Society as an administrative trainee in Fargo, North Dakota.
After six months he was assigned to the Tulsa, Oklahoma, office and then moved back to Omaha in 1957. In 1962, he began a 25-year career in the company’s Internal Audit and Evaluation Bureau, working as an auditor and insurance fraud investigator. His assignments took him to all corners of the United States.
Stedman retired to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1985 and often traveled by car to see the country, occasionally making the 1,685-mile drive to Omaha and UNO.
Bob Stedman was a generous supporter of the university and CBA. With assistance from the University of Nebraska Foundation, the business graduate and former UNO football and basketball player created a unitrust to fund scholarships for business students, student athletes and the UNO Alumni Association. In 2010, the college named its statistics laboratory in his honor.
