A quick glance through Dr. Erin Bass’ curriculum vitae proves she’s a superlative scholar — and she’s just getting started.
As an assistant professor of management at the UNO College of Business Administration for not even two full years, Bass has already garnered a handful of honors for her teaching and research.
In August, she can add another award to her list. Bass received her second SAGE Best Leadership Paper award, which she’ll accept at the Academy of Management conference on August 5–9, 2016.
The paper, titled “Leveraging psychological capital during a crisis: Churchill’s Leadership during World War II,” is coauthored with colleagues from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and John Hopkins University.
“In this paper, we uncover how a leader's positive psychological capacities support them in their ability to lead through and out of a crisis,” Bass said. “We use historical analysis of Churchill's speeches during WWII to develop a framework to explain how leaders can effectively lead during a crisis.”
The Academy of Management is a professional association for management and organization scholars. The conference attracts more than 10,000 academics, scholars, professionals and students, and it receives over 7,000 paper submissions each year.
A native of Calgary, Canada, Bass earned her bachelor’s and MBA degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a Ph.D. in business management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
