OMAHA – A new open-access journal dedicated to sharing economics pedagogy launched on June 6.
The Journal of Economics Teaching, called JET, is the result of a joint effort among scholars who represent 11 universities from across the country, including the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Dr. Ben Smith, assistant professor of economics at the UNO College of Business Administration, serves on the journal’s advisory board and works as the website developer.
This peer-reviewed, electronic journal publishes original research with a distinct focus on innovative ways to teach economics — from social media and pop culture to service learning and classroom experiments.
The journal is for educators at all levels and is the first of its kind to publish K-12 content in every issue.
“Our comparative advantage is in disseminating cool, fun, interactive and informative ways to make your classroom come alive,” write Linda Ghent, editor, and Dirk Mateer, advisory board member, in the journal’s debut issue.
JET’s editorial and advisory board members are award-winning teachers, economic education center directors, textbook authors and scholars who represent the following academic institutions:
- California Polytechnic State University
- Catalina Foothills High School
- Eastern Illinois University
- Georgia State University
- Northern Kentucky University
- Pennsylvania State University
- Robert Morris University
- Susquehanna University
- University of Arizona
- University of Kentucky
- University of Nebraska at Omaha
- University of West Georgia
JET is made possible by the Thomas R. Brown Foundation, which delivers economic education programs to K-12 teachers across Arizona and direct grants in select strategic areas.
