The University of Nebraska at Omaha College of Business Administration Scholars Academy is a close-knit community of ambitious, high-achieving business students who want to challenge themselves while pursuing a degree.
Throughout the four years in the program, Scholars are mentored by business professionals in the Omaha community, enroll in special business courses taught by award-winning faculty, and gain real-world experience through community engagement and international travel.
Scholars are selected the spring of their senior year of high school after a rigorous and competitive application process.
Meet Alison Raszler, of Elkhorn, Nebraska, a member of the 2016 Cohort.
Why did you choose UNO?
I chose UNO because of its size. I loved that the campus was a 15-minute walk from one side of Dodge campus to the other. I also fell in love with the apartment-style housing so I could get my own room. When I visited UNO, the whole atmosphere just felt like home.
Why did you choose business as a major?
Business has always fascinated me because it is all around us. Majoring in business is an easy decision for me because I enjoy learning about business markets and day-to-day operations that go into either a little shop or a global industry. My parents are also business majors, so I would like to follow in their footsteps.
What business concentration are you planning to pursue? Why?
I plan on double concentrating in marketing and management. I chose marketing because it is more than a simple desk job and allows me to look at different dimensions to see what products are selling well from advertising strategies. I also chose management because I like to delegate tasks to team members to get the next project rolling out on time.
What aspect of the Scholars Academy are you most looking forward to?
The aspect I look most forward to in the Scholars Academy is the business relationships we will develop throughout the years. Networking is very important in the business world, and these monthly meetings with Omaha business professionals will help guide me into becoming a great business woman.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to do lots of things in my free time. I love playing softball outside in the summer, and I also enjoy bike riding on trails. When the weather is not so nice, I like to stay indoors and bake and decorate desserts and pass them out to friends and family.
What is one thing we would be surprised to know about you?
One thing most people don't know about me is I moved into a house a half-mile away from our old house two summers ago. We moved out of a two story into a ranch because I would be moving out soon for college. That summer was really fun because I moved about half the house in my little car with my two sisters. It definitely kept us busy that summer.
