OMAHA – Since January, finance whiz Calvin Custard has been working as an asset management and acquisitions intern at Midwest Housing Equity Group (MHEG).
Headquartered in Omaha, MHEG is a nonprofit that helps finance affordable housing throughout the Midwest. The company has three additional offices in Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma.
An Omaha native and senior in the UNO College of Business Administration, Custard shares more about his role at MHEG and post-graduation goals.
What are your job duties?
Preparing financial reports for our investors and other employees and entering information into our database that we share with investors for easy analysis.
What do you enjoy about your job?
The company culture, the helpful and welcoming nature of my coworkers, and the fact that I am always learning something new.
How does your job relate to your coursework in CBA?
MHEG is a real estate investment firm that specializes in low-income housing projects, which relates to many finance and investment courses I have taken. I personally prepare and review financial reports such as balance sheets and income statements to send to its investors.
What are your career goals? How is CBA helping you achieve them?
I plan to get a graduate degree after I graduate and eventually become and entrepreneur or work in a financial position at a Fortune 500 company. CBA has helped me by providing a high standard of education and a helpful advising staff that has allowed me to remain on track to graduate and has informed me on where to look for future employment.
What are you doing for fun this summer?
I am becoming more immersed in my fraternity as I take on responsibilities as the new assistant treasurer of Pi Kappa Alpha. I also enjoy golfing, exercising, and simply spending time with friends and family.
