This fall, the UNO College of Business Administration welcomed nine new full-time faculty members — one of the largest classes in college history.
An alumna turned employee, Julia Kolar is excited to join CBA's accounting faculty.
The Omaha native earned her B.S. in Business Administration and Master of Accounting here at UNO. Kolar passed the CPA exam shortly after graduating and hit the ground running as an auditor at Deloitte. Most recently, she served as the director of corporate accounting at Green Plains.
After gaining ample experience in public accounting and industry, Kolar is ready to pass on her knowledge in the classroom.
Below, she shares more about her time in academia.
What are your impressions so far of UNO and the College of Business Administration?
The university has shattered my expectations as an organization that cares about the whole student, rather than just academic success. Students can also benefit from the free support to improve their writing, presentation, resume or interview skills. There’s an array of resources for any student who chooses to engage.
What's your favorite thing about teaching/working with college students?
My favorite aspect of teaching is how bright the future is for each student. Each is full of potential and opportunity. I can’t wait to check back in five years to see the careers launched out of this program. I get a front row seat to the problem-solving skills that will lead to success in our community.
Do you have any advice for CBA students?
People have an expectation of who you are or what you can bring to the table; usually they are wrong. Take risks, speak up and bring it. Do not let fear of another’s opinion stifle the drive that brought you to business school in the first place.
What do you like to do for fun?
For fun I like to spend time with my daughters, Marykate, 1, and Evelyn, 3. On the weekends, we enjoy getting out to the park, zoo, Kansas City, pumpkin patch, etc. You name it, if we can get out as a family, we waste no time!
