The UNO College of Business Administration Scholars Academy is a close-knit community of ambitious, high-achieving business students who want to challenge themselves while pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
During this four-year program, Scholars are mentored by Omaha-area business professionals, take special business courses taught by award-winning faculty, and gain real-world experience through community engagement and international travel. They also receive generous scholarships.
Scholars are selected the spring of their senior year in high school after a rigorous and competitive application process.
Meet new member Colten Moshier of Duluth, Minnesota.
Why did you choose UNO?
I knew UNO was the right college for me right after my tour. I fell in love with the campus and surrounding area. However, it was my tour guide who really showed me exactly what UNO had to offer and the opportunities that it could provide me. After touring the business school and seeing the different modern aspects of the classrooms, my heart was set on UNO.
Why did you choose business as a major?
I chose business as my major because of the variety of paths you can take with it. I someday hope to own a business, like many other members of my family, and having a business degree opens that door for me. I also enjoy the range of possible careers that business offers. I have big dreams, and I believe that studying business can help me get there.
What business concentration are you planning to pursue? Why?
I am currently planning on entrepreneurship. I feel that it is the concentration that will help me best reach my goals of owning a business. I have always enjoyed the thought of starting my own business, and I believe that this will help me achieve that.
What aspect of the Scholars Academy are you most looking forward to?
The community aspect that it brings out among members is probably what I am most looking forward to. I am also really excited for the opportunities that it is going to provide me.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Whenever I get the chance, I try and spend as much time as possible outdoors. I enjoy going out on hikes, camping and backpacking. I also spend time out on the lakes and rivers in my area fishing and boating. I play golf with my friends all throughout the summer months. However, I enjoy going out and taking pictures the most.
What is one thing we would be surprised to know about you?
People are surprised to learn that I am an amateur photographer. I spend a lot of time going out to the natural places around my city and taking pictures. My main focus when taking pictures is attempting to capture the natural beauty that is around us every day.
