The University of Nebraska at Omaha is the first university in the state to earn an endorsement from the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
The endorsement covers the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Accounting concentration and Master of Accounting degree programs, touting the quality of the UNO College of Business Administration’s management accounting curriculum.
Less than 35 universities across the country to date have earned IMA’s higher education endorsement.
To qualify, business programs must meet the quality educational standards required for students to earn a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation. Standards include evidence of learning outcomes as well as faculty support, employer relations and program accreditation.
“Students in UNO’s undergraduate and graduate accounting programs understand the career benefits associated with professional certifications such as CMA and CPA,” said Department Chairperson Susan Eldridge, Ph.D., CPA. “Our curricula and student learning experiences, along with directed faculty advising, support students pursuing certification options.”
The Department of Accounting offers numerous opportunities for students to engage in the community and prepare for their careers, including the Accounting Careers Program, Accounting Speakers Series and an award-winning chapter of Beta Alpha Psi international honor organization.
UNO’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter has earned international recognition as a Superior Chapter for the past eight consecutive years. Members meet weekly with local accounting professionals, participate in community service, and attend national and regional conferences.
Additionally, the department holds a specialized accounting accreditation through AACSB International. Fewer than 190 universities worldwide hold this prestigious, rigorous accreditation — a testament to the college’s high-quality curriculum and high-achieving faculty and students.
