Black History Month: Featuring Tahj Butler, BSBA Student
In recognition of Black History Month, UNO CBA is recognizing Black faculty, students, alumni, and community members making an impact in Omaha and beyond.
We're proud to feature Tahj Butler, a current undergraduate student in UNO CBA's Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program. We checked in with Butler on his sources of motivation, where he's finding joy, and his hopes for the future.
Can you tell us about your education?
"This is my third year at UNO. My major is Business Administration, and I’m currently exploring my opportunities for a concentration. My expected graduation date is 2023."
What does it mean to you to be a student in business?
"Being a student in business means, to me, that you embrace the failures and struggles that come throughout the school year, and to always remember why you started it. Remember to have courage, passion, and consistency when struggles come. And never forget why you started this journey."
Who or what inspires you?
"One person that inspires me is Robert F. Smith, who is a Black entrepreneur, philanthropist, and engineer. One reason he inspires me is because he has proven throughout the struggles in his life that with enough willpower and passion, you can truly accomplish anything in this world."
When do you feel like your voice is being heard and respected?
"I feel my voice is being heard when I speak up, and someone takes the time and actively listens to me, and then works with me to solve the problem."
What do you hope to accomplish during and after the rest of your college experience?
"I hope to grow a firm support group and the knowledge and guidance to enter business fields. I would like to run a non-profit in the future focusing on underprivileged youth and teens. I’m open to all opportunities that come my way, and eager to learn as well."
