CBA School of Accounting Alum to Receive Award from Nebraska Society of CPAs
Leonard Sommer, a 1976 graduate of the UNO College of Business Administration’s School of Accounting (SOA) and SOA Advisory Board Chair Emeritus, has been selected as the recipient of the Public Service Award by the Nebraska Society of CPA’s for 2024. Sommer will receive the award later this fall during the Society’s Annual meeting.

Mammel Hall – Leonard Sommer, a 1976 graduate of the UNO College of Business Administration’s School of Accounting (SOA) and SOA Advisory Board Chair Emeritus, has been selected as the recipient of the Public Service Award by the Nebraska Society of CPA’s for 2024. Sommer will receive the award later this fall during the Society’s Annual meeting.
Sommer is past managing Partner of Hancock & Dana PC, a CPA firm specializing in the accounting, tax and business consulting needs of family-owned and closely held businesses. He also serves the firm by assisting clients with succession and exit planning strategies, developing incentive compensation programs and advising clients in tax planning.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Nebraska Society of CPAs. He is a past member of the AICPA Management Consulting Services Executive Committee, past chairman of the AICPA Management Consulting Services Practice Standards and Administration Committee and served on the editorial board of the AICPA Management Consultant Newsletter. Sommer has served and currently serves on various nonprofit boards and committees. In 2015 he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Business Administration. Sommer has directed his award money as a scholarship in his name to a deserving accounting student in the UNO School of Accounting.
