Santiago shares his story with FBLA-C that led him to his win:
“After having an unsuccessful run at Biochemistry, I started studying Accounting in my hometown at Northeast Community College. I knew that I was already a semester behind everyone else, so I was intrigued when an FBLA-C member came and presented to us in our business communications class. I went to a chapter meeting and had no idea that I would eventually go to NLC that year in San Antonio and place 2nd in Accounting Analysis and Decision Making with my teammate, Trent Jorgensen," Santiago said. "I had only taken Accounting I up until that point, so I made a promise to myself that I would continue down the Accounting path and hopefully get a First Place position in the future. Fast forward to today, and I have fulfilled the promise that I made to myself five years ago. I couldn't have succeeded this semester without the unwavering support of some of my professors such as Dr. Jasa, Dr. Venkatesh, and Dr. Riley as well as all my other professors who I have had the pleasure of studying under at UNO. I encourage EVERY student at UNO to check out this organization as it will help you prepare for job interviews, presentations, and resume prep at the very least. If you maximize your time in FBLA-C like I did, you will walk away with something even better - a lifelong network of movers and shakers who strive to make the world a better place.”
The team says they are very proud of all of the competitors from their chapter, especially their national champion Joshua Santiago. They are even more proud to represent their fantastic and supporting community and phenomenal university. They hope these members and their hard work will inspire other students to join, make a bigger impact on Their community and fellow classmates, and continue to strive for success in future years.
