Mammel Hall – UNO CBA is home to a 2023-2024 Gold Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), an organization for students concentrating in Accounting, Finance, or Information Systems. Gamma Kappa—UNO’s chapter of BAP—works hard each year to promote academic excellence, collaboration with local firms, and making a difference in the community.
“Under the exceptional leadership of Xiaoyan Cheng, the chapter has earned international recognition as a Gold chapter, an accomplishment that speaks volumes about the dedication and excellence of your department,” said Dr. Patricia M. Poli, CPA, 2024-2024 President of Beta Psi.
Each year, the group hosts events like Meet the Firms, an initiation ceremony, an alumni event, impact meetings, and social events. A major commitment of BAP members is participation in mandatory service projects. Their community volunteer events this semester include the Open Door Mission, Siena Francis House, Accounting Review Sessions, and a Panel Discussion at the UNO Accounting AdventuresTM Mini-Camp, where members and candidates had the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the community.
“Dr. Cheng is an inspiring mentor to our students. Her exceptional leadership has created a motivating environment for the growth and leadership of our dedicated BAP officers and students, resulting in their impactful contributions to our community,” said Dr. Roopa Venkatesh, Director of the UNO CBA School of Accounting and Union Pacific Professor of Accounting.
“Thanks to the dedicated leadership of the BAP officers—President Russ Butler, Vice President Emily Martin, VP of Membership Charles Castle, VP of Community Engagement Emily Yowell, VP of Records Cassidy Espinoza, Treasurer Laynie Kuhn, and VP of Social Media Vivian Nguyen—who have worked tirelessly to plan, organize, and execute a wide range of successful initiatives, we have been able to make a lasting impact on both our campus and the community,” said Dr. Xiaoyan Cheng, Gamma Kappa Chapter Leader and Accounting Professor.
The Gold chapter recognition is accompanied by a $500 award sponsored by KPMG LLP and the KPMG Foundation.
