UNO School of Comm – Policy for Travel/Conference Funding for Grad Students
Graduate students (MA & Certificate): If you have a conference paper/panel/other presentation type accepted to a state, regional, national, or international academic conference, you may apply for grant funding support to cover conference and/or travel costs. Grant funding is available from both (1) UNO Office of Graduate Studies and (2) The School of Communication. However, please seek funding FIRST from the UNO Office of Graduate Studies BEFORE applying to the School of Communication. For more information on application process, please see below.
(1) UNO Office of Graduate Studies: Students may apply for up to $500 once per semester in assistance through the Office of Graduate Studies by completing the Graduate Studies Graduate Conference Presentation Proposal through NuRamp (formerly known as MavGrants). Use this link: https://nuramp.nebraska.edu/login
For more information, please contact UNO Office of Graduate Studies: gradschool@unomaha.edu
(2) The School of Communication: MA and certificate students are eligible to apply for up to $500 in assistance for each academic year you are enrolled in the program, provided funds are available.
Requirements: Students MUST be enrolled in classes BOTH in the semester they apply for funding and the semester in which the conference occurs.
How to apply: Students may apply for these funds by emailing the following information at least 2 weeks before the travel date to the graduate program chair:
- Name
- NUID number
- Contact email
- Year in MA
- Name, date, and location of conference
- Title of the Paper/Panel/Presentation
- Proof of paper/panel/presentation acceptance (e.g., acceptance letter/email)
In awarding these grants, the School of Communication will give priority to:
- MA students over certificate students
- Graduate students who apply for funding early
- Graduate students who are enrolled in classes in the semester they apply for funding
- Graduate students who have not previously received this funding, and
- Graduate students who are first or solo authors on the work they are presenting.
If you are awarded funding, please email the School of Communication director for information on how funds are processed.
