UNO Public Relations Students Earn Record Number of Awards
School of Communication students and alums win big at the Public Relations Society of America Nebraska Gala

University of Nebraska at Omaha students and alumni garnered a record 14 awards at the PRSA Nebraska awards gala recently.
UNO student entries came from a cross-section of School of Communication student groups including UNO Public Relations Student Society of America, MaverickPR, Maverick Social Media a part of the on campus Social Media Lab, Magazine Editing, Design and Production classes, which produce the CommUNO publication and the PR and Advertising Capstone."The School of Communication students, faculty and staff once again demonstrate their excellent work to the Omaha public relations community,” said Michael L. Hilt, Ph.D. Dean, College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media. “I am proud of the repeated recognition of their efforts."
In addition, Taylor Shipley, senior and UNO PRSSA vice president of publications received one of three scholarships awarded by PRSA Nebraska.
“Congratulations to our excellent faculty and exceptional students,” said Hugh Reilly, director, School of Communication. “Every year, UNO students show their skill and creativity and this year is no exception. As I get ready to retire, it’s wonderful to know that the School of Communication will continue to excel in preparing students for their professional careers.”
PRSA Nebraska also recognized alumnus Bill O’Neill, University of Nebraska Medical Center, executive director, Strategic Communications as Professional of the Year. University Communications and other UNO alumni also earned awards to recognize their exceptional achievements in public relations. Nebraska Medicine received the Community Service Award.
