The National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) will be hosting its ninth national conference in January 2022, and has selected the UNO Concert Choir as Conference Presenters - their choral performance will be recorded and played during the event. Only 18 ensembles from across the United States of America have been chosen for this honor through a fierce peer-review process. This is the first time a UNO choir has been selected to present at a NCCO conference.
NCCO “wishes to celebrate the ingenuity and innovation of our choral director members by featuring some of the most creative, impactful, and musical choral performance videos created during the pandemic.”
The UNO Concert Choir does not only excel within the limits of the country–their inclusion in NCCO9 is coming off the heels of international achievement in the Rovdo International Choral Competition based in Belarus and the International Society for Music Education European Regional Virtual Conference, originally scheduled in Germany.
The choir’s conductor, Dr. Derrick Fox, says “these things are not the only monikers of success in our choral program. But [the recognition] is a wonderful affirmation when it felt like music would have to stop.” UNO Concert Choir has thrived in spite of COVID-19 and its restrictions: this year, there are 51 members of the group, which includes both music and non-music majors and spans freshmen to graduate students.
