The Doctorate in Educational Administration (Ed.D.) is a fully-online graduate program for educators who have completed foundational work in school leadership.
This program is designed for those with current administrative certification who wish to gain expertise as a practitioner and scholar in their chosen area of education.
Application Process
To apply for the Ed.D. program, educators must possess a master’s degree in Education or an Educational Specialist Degree, and hold a current administrative certificate.
Application begins by calling the Department of Educational Leadership, 402.554.2721, and completing UNO's online application for admission.

- Spring: October 1 (limited)
- Summer: April 15
Degree Requirements
The minimum number of graduate credits for the 100% online Ed.D. degree is 96 semester hours, including 45 or more new hours completed after acceptance.
- 9 hours of doctoral seminars
- 12 hours of research
- 12 hours or more of electives
- 12 hours dissertation hours
Most previous graduate credits are accepted, including the master’s degree hours, with up to 51 hours counted toward the total 96 hours required.
Most UNO Ed.D. candidates continue to work full-time and complete their doctoral work in three to five years. The Ed.D. must be completed within 10 years from the time of acceptance.

Superintendent Certification may be completed as a part of the Ed.D. if the superintendent classes and internship are chosen as "electives."
