OWH Editorial: UNeTech can help build Nebraska's biotech sector
From the Omaha World Herald -
Wouldn’t it be an important achievement if a big chunk of the biomedical research done in Omaha no longer was automatically licensed with corporations from out of state? What if, instead, some of that research was kept here to build a homegrown biotech sector, generating new jobs and investment?
UNeTech, a new partnership between the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, offers that long-term prospect. Biotech will be a central focus, though support also will be available for promising nonmedical research.
The initiative aims to nurture local biotech startups by connecting commercially promising research concepts at UNMC and UNO with financing and support partners. Such help will be in coordination with UNeMed, UNMC’s longtime affiliate providing medical research with patents, licensing and other intellectual property supports.
