Degrees
Bachelor of Science in Biomechanics
Biomechanics is the study of forces that act on the body and the effects they produce. Biomechanists work in collecting and analyzing biological and movement-related data, examine the efficacy of drugs that affect movement, and generate biotechnologies that improve functionality and monitor mobility. The study of biomechanics is a unique intersection of biology, physiology, anatomy, physics, mathematics, and chemistry to solve difficult problems in medicine and health.
Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology
The Kinesiology program is designed to prepare students to assume positions as fitness or health promotion directors and exercise consultants in private or public agencies, health centers, cardiac rehabilitation programs, as well as corporate fitness programs. This program is also well-suited as a pre-professional program for students interested in further pursuing a career in physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, nursing, chiropractic or other field. Additionally, the kinesiology program will prepare students for research intensive exercise science graduate programs in exercise physiology, biomechanics, physical activity and others.
Pre-Athletic Training Track
Undergraduate students can declare a pre-athletic training track as a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology to ensure they are meeting requirements to be able to apply to a graduate Athletic Training Program. If you have questions about declaring as a Pre-Athletic Training track, please contact the School of Health and Kinesiology.
Pre-Physical Therapy Track
Undergraduate students can declare a Pre-Physical Therapy track as a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology which ensures they can meet all of their prerequisite requirements to apply for PT School. If you have questions about declaring as a Pre-Physical Therapy track, please contact the School of Health and Kinesiology.
Minors
Sports Biomechanics Minor
The minor in Sports Biomechanics is designed to prepare students for careers in these occupations whose majors are outside of Biomechanics yet have an interest in potentially pursuing a career or advanced studies in sports biomechanics.
Sports Medicine Minor
Occupations in the sports medicine realm are among the fastest growing within the healthcare industry. To meet the needs and prepare students for careers in these occupations, exposing students who may have an interest in this area to basic content knowledge is paramount.
This minor is for students outside the Kinesiology major, yet have an interest in potentially pursuing a career or advanced studies within the sports medicine field. Students who obtain the sports medicine minor will be exposed to content related to the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of sport-related injuries and illnesses.
