Teacher Scholars Academy is a select group of high-achieving teacher candidates who embody leadership qualities and commitment to their communities. Candidates are incoming freshmen enrolled in a CEHHS teacher preparation program, have demonstrated academic excellence, and show community commitment through volunteer service and extracurricular activities. Scholarships
Assets In Education: Open to educator preparation candidates in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences majoring in elementary, secondary, or special education. The scholarship is open to freshmen through seniors.
Dr. Hollie Bethel: Open to College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences candidates preparing to teach elementary education (grades K-6). Applicants must be at junior or senior level.
Ernie Gorr Scholarship: Open to College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences students majoring in Physical Education Teacher Preparation, Kinesiology, or Public Health.
Hefflinger Family Endowed Scholarship: Open to College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences majors with the passion and desire to become innovative and inspiring educators or counselors. This scholarship is intended for those who have the calling to inspire others and change lives through education. This scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years.
Helen B. Hewett Scholarship: Open to College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences students majoring in Physical Education Teacher Preparation, Kinesiology, or Athletic Training.
Helen Elliott: Open to educator preparation candidates in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences majoring in elementary education with a specialization in early childhood education. The scholarship is open to freshmen through seniors.
Linda P. Krause: Open to educator preparation candidates in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences majoring in elementary education or special education. Candidate must have at least a 3.25 GPA.
Lykke Practice Teaching Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to clinical practice candidates majoring in education in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.
Neafus General: Open to students majoring in a program of study in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. The scholarship is open to students in the freshman through senior level. Selection is based on academics, leadership, community involvement, need, etc.
Northern Natural Gas Company: Open to educator preparation candidates in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences majoring in elementary, secondary or special education. The scholarship is designed to include a service component with the HOPE Center and is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have been admitted to the Educator Preparation Program and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Patricia Lynn Christie: Open to educator preparation candidates in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences preparing for a teaching career in deaf education.
Paul Ackerson: Open to educator preparation candidates in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences majoring in secondary mathematics education. Applicants must have sophomore standing.
Plambeck Montessori Scholars (Inservice Educators): Open to Montessori Certified Teachers with an Associate’s Degree and/or a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. A three-year renewable partial scholarship will be awarded to up to four students per academic year who are enrolled full-time (12 credit hours) in the Inclusive Early Childhood Education Bachelor’s Degree program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Renewal of the Plambeck Montessori Scholarship Program – Inservice Educators scholarship is contingent on the student’s successful completion of the academic year with a 3.0 GPA. Recipients must demonstrate community involvement, academic achievement, and a desire to serve as an educator in a Montessori classroom.
Robert Ackerman Fellowship Fund: This scholarship is awarded to graduate students in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences pursuing any master's degree program. Candidates must be employed by the Millard Public Schools with preference given to those students pursuing their first master's degree.
Robert E. Bruckner Memorial Endowed Scholarship: Open to College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences incoming freshman with the passion and desire to become innovative and inspiring educators. This scholarship is intended for those who have the calling to inspire others and change lives through teaching. This scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years.
STEM STARS Scholarship: Open to any College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences major interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics [STEM] education. STEM STARS (Scholars Teaching And inspiRing Students) is a cohort for students interested in UNO STEM outreach in facilitation, preparation, and promotion of STEM events in the community and on campus. Students in the STEM STARS cohort will receive training to be well‐informed representatives of the Office of STEM Education. Opportunities for undergraduate research may also be available. Interested students will receive application materials in May for participation during the following academic year.
Talent Scholarship: Open to freshman students majoring in a program of study offered in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.
Awards and Honors
Outstanding Service Award - Undergraduate
This award will be presented to an undergraduate student in each major program area who has demonstrated a high level of personal service in the major in at least two of the following areas: service to the university, service to the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, service to the community, or service to the profession. The undergraduate applicant must have completed 60 hours and have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
University Honors Convocation Award
This award is presented to one undergraduate student in each major program area who displays a combination of outstanding scholastic achievement and demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community. The award is presented at the Honors Convocation and the recipient's name is included in the convocation program. The recipient competes with other College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences recipients for the Dean's Award. The Dean's award recipients from all colleges compete for the Vice Chancellor's Award.
