Learn and Earn Initiative
Addressing Nebraska’s Technology Demands and Broadening Participation in Computing
At the heart of IS&T’s Learn and Earn Initiative is the goal that all students will have the opportunity to pursue and complete their degree with minimal cost barriers and access to experiential learning opportunities to launch their IT careers. We also created a pay-forward Opportunity and Access Scholarships for IT students (OASIS) to provide tuition scholarships and help us achieve our affordability goal. All students are considered for scholarships when they apply for the college.
Experiential Learning: Shadows, Projects, and Internships. IS&T has partnered with Omaha-area companies to allow you to explore the wide range of technology careers in Omaha, engage in innovative tech projects, and participate in paid internships to further develop your career portfolio. These paid experiences will ensure that you are supported throughout each phase of your academic program and career development.
Job Shadow Experience: In your first semester, you will be part of IS&T’s College and Career Success course, where you will have the opportunity to visit three partner companies/organizations. In addition to providing you with the skills to succeed academically, the class will allow you to familiarize yourself with companies/organizations in the Omaha metro area.
Micro-internships: In your second semester, you will participate in the Professional Development Seminar that will prepare you to succeed in tech careers. In addition to honing your professional skills, you will have the opportunity to work on real paid projects from our partner companies to find solutions to pressing issues in our community.
Internships: Finally, during your third and fourth years, you will gain experience in your major through paid internships. This experience will help round out your work portfolio to prepare you to enter and grow professionally in your career. If you are a transfer or a graduate student, you will be able to apply for internships soon after you enter the college.
