The School of Interdisciplinary Informatics, College of Information Technology seeks an innovative, dynamic individual to fill a tenure track Assoc/Full Professor position in Biomedical Informatics with an emphasis in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology. The College has a strong foundation in bioinformatics & biomedical informatics field through its undergraduate/graduate programs, extensive collaborations with leading research institutions, and its investments in the Biomedical Informatics faculty.
Who We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate will have the ability to lead a highly collaborative bioinformatics research program that will serve as a national resource. This position is critical in supporting the many collaborative projects the College has with the University of Nebraska Medical Center, a nationally recognized institution conveniently located close to the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Candidates will be expected to conduct high-quality research, actively pursue extramural funding, mentor biomedical informatics graduate students, and teach BMI seminars. UNO has unique access to the Department of Defense (DoD) research enterprise through the National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) and therefore is well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities in bioinformatics-related research. Hence, we expect this position to leverage the relationships being built with the DoD through the NSRI, leading to additional bioinformatics-related funding opportunities for UNO.
Candidates must hold a PhD and/or MD degree; have a record of significant research accomplishments; and present long-term research goals consistent with establishing and/or maintaining a highly successful research program. Candidates with expertise in the following areas will be given priority: disease outbreaks, host-pathogen interactions, pathogen discovery, and the emerging field of synthetic biology. Candidates must have an established grant portfolio including Principal Investigator NIH R01 (or equivalent) experience.
