Spring 2025
- Dr. Dario Ghersi, M.D., Ph.D., Princeton graduate student Eric Glynn, Ph.D., and Princeton Computer Science Professor Mona Singh, Ph.D., have created a tool called MHCGlobe, to improve the effectiveness of cancer immunotherapies. The study that led to the tool’s development was funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (Grant No. R01-CA208148) and published in the leading scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). - Dr. Kwangsung Oh received the prestigious NSF CAREER Award. This award will allow Dr. Oh to lead advances in the field of computer systems for geo-distributed data analytics (GDA).
- The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Heartland Family Service to create a community cybersecurity response team. A grant from the Department of Justice funds this project. Dr. Kerry Ward and Dr. George Grispos from UNO will develop digital forensics training for law enforcement for this project.
Fall 2024
- Dr. Kate Cooper's collaborative research on wearable sensors is highlighted in the Omaha World Herald. NU team developing wearable device to help people with chronic conditions get timely treatment. The team has produced prototype devices with electronics embedded in a kind of patch that can stick to the chest, like a bandage. The idea is that patients would wear it as they go about their daily activities, and it would record and upload data in real-time.
- The inaugural C-BYTES Research Showcase and Student Competition is scheduled for November 19, 2024. A unique opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to hone their research communication skills, network with faculty and IS&T professionals, and win prizes. This first C-BYTES event will focus on projects that fit within the AI & Advanced Computing Systems research Collaboratorium.
- Chun-Hua Tsai, Ph.D., Working with other UNO Researchers on using AI for co-design supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation

Joel Elson, Ph.D., and Erin Kearns, Ph.D., have patented a chatbot technology that modernizes suspicious events and threat reporting, making it more accessible and efficient.
