A minor in Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) is available to UNO students that have an interest in UAS technology and would like to complement coursework in their major with selected courses offered through the Aviation Institute.
This minor focuses on cultivating practical skills and knowledge essential for the safe, legal, and professional application of UAS technology within their respective fields.
The objective of the UAS minor include:
- Equipping students with essential theoretical knowledge in aviation to successfully pass the Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 knowledge exam, enabling them to obtain a commercial drone operating license.
- Providing students with comprehensive education encompassing both theoretical and practical aspects of UAS flight operations, including flight planning, manual maneuvers, autonomous flight, various aerial data collection techniques, as well as fundamental aerial data processing and analysis.
- Developing students' understanding of UAS technical architecture, basic maintenance and repair, utilization of diverse software for supporting UAS flight missions, and demonstrating their capability to integrate UAS technology into their respective domains.
