About the Flying Mavericks Flight Team
The Flying Mavericks Flight Team, proudly sponsored by Jet Linx, is an intercollegiate squad that competes in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Regional and National SAFECON competitions.
Team Membership
Each year, approximately 15 team members represent UNO in a variety of events. While many team members are pilots, non-pilots also contribute by competing in ground-based events, strengthening the team’s overall performance.

The team meets year-round for classroom sessions and flight training practices to prepare for these challenges.
Recent Achievements
At the recent National SAFECON in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the Flying Mavericks performed exceptionally well, placing in the top 15 teams nationwide.
Team Benefits
Being part of the Flight Team offers a unique opportunity to connect with students from UNO and other colleges while honing your aviation skills. Team members’ achievements are proudly displayed at the Aviation Institute, and students often earn individual recognition, including nominations as representative competitors by their peers.
Community Outreach
Beyond competitions, the Flight Team actively supports community outreach by engaging with children and educating them about aviation and the pilot profession.
