Rachel Lyon
“For me it’s creative problem-solving . . . Creativity is spurred by limits not by freedom. I can McGyver a whole lot of things.”
Rachel has a BS in Biology with Natural History Interpretation emphasis from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. She is also a Certified Master Gardener through Kansas State.
Rachel has worked for the City of Independence, Kansas Park Department for five years and served as Park Supervisor for the last two. She considers herself incredibly lucky to be one of those odd ducks who is excited to go to work every day. Working at Riverside Park allows her to satisfy her technical curiosities because she is charged with maintaining the structural and mechanical integrity of several historic buildings as well as a vintage carousel and miniature train. Combined with the design and maintenance of 37 planting areas, the park serves as a backdrop to countless memories created every day by citizens and their loved ones.
