Dr. Carey retired from the State of Texas in January 2020, after 26 years with the State. Prior to retiring, she worked fifteen years for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) in numerous positions, including twelve years as the Deputy Director of Substance Abuse Treatment. She has over five years of experience with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, five years of experience with the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and worked fifteen years in higher education, teaching criminal justice and business.
