Professional Experience and Expertise
Dr. Sadaf Hashimi’s research focuses on the intersection between peer influence and crime, collective behavior, and criminal justice policy.
She employs social network analysis and other research designs to uncover patterns of criminal and non-criminal behaviors related to the police role, including police use of force and misconduct, criminal group involvement, gun violence, and various forms of victimization.
Her most recent research has been funded by the Department of Homeland Security, Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research and has appeared in outlets such as the Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, Justice Quarterly, and Criminology & Public Policy.
Dr. Hashimi is a co-director of the Violence Intervention and Policing Research Lab at UNO, a co-editor of Global Crime, a social science journal devoted to studying crime across international settings, and leads UNO's TRAC Program, a higher education in prison program.
