Alumni Update
After receiving her MSUS degree, Deidre Rivera accepted the position of Housing Director with the Salvation Army and will oversee the Permanent Supportive Housing and Renaissance Housing programs in Omaha. Deidre describes housing as her “niche” and is passionate about bringing more affordable housing to Omaha. She contributes housing knowledge from her employment with the Municipal Housing Agency (MHA) of Council Bluffs, where she worked with individuals residing in low-income housing, connecting them to resources to assist their self-sufficiency. One of her accomplishments was coordinating with a local pantry, Story Street Pantry, to provide non-perishable food boxes delivered to residents’ doors. Deidre has also worked at non-profits in the Omaha Metro Area, such as Community Alliance and Heartland Family Service. Her passion for Urban Studies and housing arose from her work as a case manager through Heartland Family Service at the Siena/Francis Homeless shelter, where she assisted chronically homeless individuals in obtaining housing. Deidre has received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha: BA in Sociology and MS in Urban Studies.
