Alumni Update
Post-graduation Julie Smith spent five years growing One Omaha, the public-private initiative dedicated to facilitating the development of neighborhoods in the City of Omaha. As Program Director, she raised the profile of neighborhood organizing and the importance of citizen coalition building and authentic community leadership. Through her work at One Omaha, Julie oversaw the development of several community development programs, multiple local conferences, and assisted with 100+ community driven projects. Prior to her job at One Omaha, Julie established a music and camping festival, Love Fest in the Midwest, while juggling college, motherhood, and serving as the volunteer services coordinator for UNO.Currently, Julie is back at school earning her J.D. from Creighton Law School and is looking forward to get back into the community development scene, equipped with new skills to be stronger advocate for inclusion, equity, and social justice. Her recent volunteer service includes board of directors member for Holy Name Housing Corporation and active member of the Gifford Park Neighborhood Association.
