Planning & Evaluation
The basic question presented in this course is how we can use strategic planning and management to build public and nonprofit organizations that function creatively and effectively and that enhance the overall public value of their services. The course reviews key concerns, concepts, and tools in strategic management, strategic planning, and performance measurement. Student learning is facilitated through lecturettes, case studies, participation in online discussions, individual and team papers and presentations, text and journal article readings, and applications of strategic planning techniques. The course will provide students with a knowledge and understanding of key content and issues in strategic management and strategic planning theory and practice; offer students conceptual frameworks for thinking about how public value can be created and maximized through strategic planning and related practices; and enhance students’ skills in using strategic planning and performance measurement tools and techniques.
