The Story of GATSA
The Grace Abbott School of Social Work (GASSW) has provided formal continuing education and professional development opportunities to social workers and licensed mental health professionals in Nebraska and Iowa since 2018. The program has grown steadily since then and continues to see unprecedented enrollment numbers and increased engagement within the NU system and with community partners across the state.
In 2021 and the early months of 2022, over 3,200 professionals enrolled in the trainings offered by the program, and just under 9,000 CEUs approved for social work and mental health practice in Nebraska were issued. With a distribution list of nearly 5,000, our marketing materials and fliers consistently stir up registrations from professionals not just in NE and IA, but also across the United States and beyond.
With this tremendous growth, GASSW recognized the community and professional workforce needed more than just trainings and CEU opportunities. Additional services were developed, and a new name was adopted: Grace Abbott Training and Supervision Academy (GATSA). Today, in addition to trainings and professional development, GATSA offers supervision for provisionally licensed mental health professionals (PLMHPs and PLIMHPs), as well as individual and drop-in group consultation for fully licensed mental health professionals (LMHPs and LIMHPs) and drop-in ASWB exam prep.
GATSA will continue to focus on developing the workforce, supporting and building meaningful partnerships with the NU system and across Nebraska, and meeting the needs of social workers and mental health professionals who want to elevate the profession and serve the mission of GASSW and the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).
