Senate Artifacts from the U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel Archives | 1997 - 2008
UNO alumnus Chuck Hagel served our state and country as a soldier in Vietnam, a U.S. Senator, and a U.S. Secretary of Defense, among other roles. When he left the U.S. Senate at the end of 2008, his records came to his alma mater and became the U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel Archives.
A new exhibit from the Hagel Archives is now up in Archives & Special Collections at Criss Library. Every item on display is from Secretary Hagel’s twelve years in the U.S. Senate, including twenty-one artifacts given to him by Nebraskans. These items demonstrate Hagel’s connection to Nebraskans from all over the state and from all walks of life. One of those items—shown below—is a dreamcatcher with the inscription “Honorable Senator Hagel in Appreciation for all Your Assistance to the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska.” The exhibit runs through January 6, 2017.
All of the artifacts in the Hagel Archives—over 1000 items—are available for visitors and researchers to see upon request. In addition, documents and photographs from the Hagel Archives are also available.
