Do You Know Chuck?
A new exhibit, Do You Know Chuck?, runs through August 31, 2018, on the lower level of Criss Library.
Chuck Hagel represented Nebraska for twelve years in the U.S. Senate and served for two years as U.S. Secretary of Defense. Yet despite the very public nature of these jobs, there remain many aspects of his life that may not be widely known.
Get to know Chuck Hagel better through a new exhibit from the U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel Archives. Letters, photographs, newspaper clippings and memorabilia trace Senator Hagel’s life from early tragedies in his family, through Vietnam, and into politics, emerging technologies, investment banking, think tanks, and corporate boards. Assembled from Chuck Hagel’s personal papers, the exhibit provides deeper insight into his life and career, who and what influenced his character and aspirations, and the wide variety of lesser-known roles he has held, both before and after his service as a U.S. Senator and the U.S. Secretary of Defense.
The exhibit was curated by Hagel Fellow Tonia Shaw from the recently arranged and described Personal Papers series of the Hagel Archives. For a pictorial history of Senator Hagel’s life, visit our online exhibit Charles Timothy Hagel: A Life in Photographs.
UNO alum Chuck Hagel served as a soldier in Vietnam, a U.S. Senator (NE-R) for twelve years (1997-2009), and a U.S. Secretary of Defense for two (2013-2015). When he left the U.S. Senate, he donated his records to his UNO. They became the U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel Archives. For more information, click here.
