UNO Libraries has named Joyce Neujahr as Assistant Dean of Library Services.
In her new role, she will continue to serve as Director of Patron Services as well as oversee library facilities and policies, manage special projects, and serve as formal representation on campus committees.
“I am honored by this appointment and eager to continue the exciting progress already begun at UNO libraries, " Neujahr said. "I look forward to new opportunities and rewarding experiences while serving the UNO community.”
Neujahr first joined the library in 2006 as a Circulation Assistant and then Circulation Supervisor before becoming Access Services Librarian in July of 2007. She was promoted to Director of Patron Services in December of 2008. Neujahr holds an MA in Library Science from the University of Missouri and has been a long time member of the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and the Nebraska Library Association. Her awards include the Nebraska Library Leadership Mentor (2013), the Outstanding Community Engagement Link Award for work with Girls, Inc. (2011), and the NLA College & University Section Distinguished Service Award (2011). Neujahr is an outstanding academic library teacher, scholar, mentor, and leader, who has served the greater UNO community for over a dozen years.
“I am thrilled to have her in this important new role within the UNO Libraries; in fact, she has been performing many of the duties for the past couple of years,” said Dave Richards, Dean of Library Services.
In the last year, Neujahr has supervised library updates including the new furniture selection, overseeing a new interior paint scheme, coordinating strategic planning and managing efforts with the system-wide facilities office regarding UNO Libraries’ addition of a mother’s room and police substation.
The duties delegated to the Assistant Dean will allow for more efficient facility upgrades and modifications, quicker turnaround on policy questions, more flexibility on special projects, and more library representation on campus issues. No doubt, Neujahr will transition seamlessly into her new role.
