In an effort to expand awareness and use of the 3D services in the Criss Library, the Creative Production Lab invites all 3D modelers, digital artists, engineers, and tinkerers to compete in the Battle for Durango Valley! The full event begins October 1st.
Durango Valley is on display now in front of the CPL inside of the Criss Library, and we need patrons to help populate the field with new creations immediately. Send us your 3D model of a monstrous creature. Dig up that .stl file of a monolithic sculpture. Get your humanoid warrior ready for the physical world! We’ll print them all at ~25mm height, and put them on display during the month of October.
Not a digital wizard yet? Create a 3D figure up to 6 inches tall from any material. We can 3D scan it into a digital file, and print it on the CPL machines. If your creation is already a miniature figure of your own design, we’re happy to put it on display with the rest of the monstrosities.
If 2D is your style, send in black and white line art of a creation and we will cut it out on the laser, slap a base under it and put it to battle!
Do you just want to see a little critter or statue printed out, but don’t have the time to pull it from the ether? Find a file on Thingiverse, send it our direction, and we will print it off.
Creative Competition
October 22nd through October 30th come to the library and use our touchscreen to vote on your favorite competitor. All original objects sent to us by October 19th are eligible to be voted on by all library patrons. The winner will be announced on Halloween, and be given $10 credit for 3D printing, laser, or vinyl cutting services in the CPL.
After Halloween, you can pick up your printed objects and pay for them as usual, or leave them in the collection of the CPL at no cost to you. You’re helping the CPL use up materials nearing the end of their natural life. That’s halfway on the road to necromancy. Our resin printer thanks you for this.
To enter, follow the procedures for submitting a 3D print on our website:
https://www.unomaha.edu/criss-library/creative-production-lab/3d-printing.php
In the ‘Project Description’ box include “Battle for Durango Valley”, the name of the model/figure as you’d like it displayed, and your name as you would like it displayed if the piece is original.
If you want to try your hand at 3D scanning or laser cutting, email the CPL at unolibrarycpl@unomaha.edu to set up a time to use the laser, or drop off your creation for scanning and entry.
For further questions email the CPL Supervisor, Charles Fisher at cfisher@unomaha.edu.
