What is the “rule of law”? What stops one branch of government—like the Executive Branch—from becoming too powerful? Can you describe any of the four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote? All of these are civics questions on the current U.S. naturalization test. Could YOU pass the test?
Civics in Practice will introduce visitors to the concept of civics and ask them to think about why civics matters. It will illustrate questions and answers from the U.S. citizenship test with photographs, documents, and other items from the U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel Archives. Curated by Hagel Archivist Lori Schwartz, the exhibit opens January 11, 2019, and runs through May 3, 2019, on the lower level of Criss Library.
UNO alum Chuck Hagel served as a soldier in Vietnam, a U.S. Senator (NE-R) for twelve years (1997-2009), and a U.S. Secretary of Defense for two (2013-2015). When he left the U.S. Senate, he donated his records to UNO. They became the U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel Archives. For more information, click here.
